HS2

Date of post: 28 August 2024: the Parish Council have received this latest update from HS2 Community and Stakeholder Engagement team, regarding Phase 2a Remediation works:

This is to make you aware that HS2 will imminently be reissuing Schedule 2 notices over the next two months or so to landowners along the 2a route. This is to enable us to access land to continue monitoring the Ground Investigation boreholes. It will also allow us to carry out other surveys, such as ecological surveys to inform the land restoration programme. In some cases, notices may be issued just to enable access to an adjoining field or for further ecological works in support of nearby remediation activity.

By way of background, once the initial surveys have been carried out, HS2 will develop a programme to undertake the actual works. Our contractors will be in touch with those impacted at least two weeks before any planned works

Landowners may be entitled to compensation for any loss experienced with these surveys and the details on how to make a claim are on the notices. HS2 Ltd will cover the reasonable costs of any successful claim and we recommend that landowners appoint professional advisors to progress any claims.

I hope you find this update helpful. If you, or any member of your community have any further questions about these or any other aspects of the HS2 project, please contact our HS2 Helpdesk on freephone 08081 434 434 or at hs2enquiries@hs2.org.uk.

Date of post: 26 April 2024: the Parish Council have received this latest update from HS2 regarding Phase 2a:

HS2 are working with the Department for Transport to develop a programme of activity to close down Phase 2a in a safe, respectful, orderly and efficient manner.

The close-down programme includes agreeing the future of environmental mitigation sites which we had started to create along the Phase 2a route. We now need to undertake a series of ecology surveys which will enable us to gain a greater understanding of the health of the newly created ponds and their wildlife.

In the coming weeks you may therefore see ecologists in the area who will be undertaking these surveys. This is non-intrusive activity which will be carried out on foot and will consist of taking photographs and recording any relevant information.

Colleagues from our contractors Balfour Beatty are engaging with land owners to confirm dates of surveys, access and parking arrangements.

Date of post: 17 April 2024: at the Annual Parish meeting, that took place on Wednesday, 10 April 2024, we were asked for an update on Lion Lodges.  Having followed this up with HS2 the response that has been received from HS2 is shown below in italics:

As you aware, on 4 October 2023, the Prime Minister announced that the Government proposes to deliver a broad range of transport initiatives in place of investing in Phase Two of HS2.  This means that HS2 Ltd is not undertaking any ‘new’ work to progress plans for Phase 2a of the project

Prior to the cancellation of HS2 Phase Two, no work had been carried out on the Lion Lodge properties to bring them up to a rentable standard, as it was not deemed to be financially viable.

The Government has also announced that it is committed to a programme for selling land and property that was acquired for Phase Two that is no longer needed. This process does take time and we need to ensure the programme provides value for money for taxpayers and does not disrupt local property markets.

Once this programme has been developed, we will be in a better position to advise you further about plans regarding Lion Lodges.

The Parish Council will provide further updates, as/when these are received.

Date of post: 1 March 2024: the Parish Council has received an update from SCC advising what the SCC HS2 Team are doing and what they know to date.  This update is as follows:

On Phase One we are continuing to deliver our statutory role, including undertaking design checks for several schemes in collaboration with HS2 Ltd. and their contractors along with processing submissions for works affecting the highway. Senior leaders supported by the HS2 Team continue to lobby government for a share of Network North funding for Staffordshire which takes account of the impact the county has already suffered from Phase 2a of HS2. More information on Network North can be seen on the link below.

Network North – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

You may be aware that on 18 January, safeguarding on the majority of the cancelled Phase 2a route was lifted. Safeguarding is a normal part of the planning process and ensures that land set aside for major infrastructure projects does not conflict with other development. The exception to this is the Handsacre area, linking Phase One and Phase 2a, which will be required for the Handsacre junction linking HS2 to the West Coast Main Line. For areas where safeguarding has been removed, the Transport Minister has closed the Rural Support Zone, Extended Homeowner Protection Zone, and Homeowner Payment schemes. The Need to Sell scheme remains open where the criteria can be met.

The Phase 2a Act has not been repealed and there is no information available on the sale of HS2 land at this moment in time. We will continue to seek information on these matters.

Date of post: 2 November 2023: Cadent, on behalf of HS2, have provided an update on work to move an underground gas pipeline near Brancote, east of Stafford. This work was to allow for the construction of HS2 and to continue to ensure a safe and reliable gas supply in future.

On 4 October 2023, the Prime Minister announced that the Government proposes to deliver a broad range of transport initiatives in place of investing in Phase Two of HS2. HS2 Ltd is not undertaking any ‘new’ work to progress plans for Phase 2a of the project but some activity is required to finish work on existing sites.

Cadent has finished moving the pipeline and has completed routine testing on the relocated pipeline.

Working on behalf of HS2 Ltd, National Grid is legally required to move a number of overhead electricity lines, pylons and gas pipelines along the HS2 route to allow for the build and operation of the new railway.

The new HS2 railway will pass above an existing gas pipeline in Marston. We’ll divert the pipeline around 2023 so it can continue to operate safely and reliably.

To inform the design for the diversion, our contractor, Fastflow, will undertake ground investigation surveys in Marston around mid-October. A team of up to 15 people, with around eight vehicles and equipment including an excavator, mobile water tank and welfare units, will carry out the work.

Visit your local community webpages to find information about HS2 works and developments in your area.

Date of post: 28 September 2021: Notice of ground investigation surveys off Tolldish Lane, Great Haywood.  As part of the continuing activity ahead of the construction of the railway, HS2 are letting you know about some planned works that will be carried out in your area.

In early 2023, we will be starting work to move an existing gas pipeline on land either side of Tolldish Lane, Great Haywood.

Before we move the pipeline, we need to carry out some surveys off Tolldish lane, to understand more about the land we will be working in. The work will involve drilling boreholes and digging small pits so we can take samples of the ground to analyse. We will be carrying out the surveys from 11 October 2021.
