HS2 in Focus: The journey of designing HS2 Phase 2a
Monday 28 February 2022, 6pm – 7pm
Join us on the journey to find out more about how we are designing Phase 2a of the new high-speed railway.
We will discuss some of the key steps we have completed already, those currently underway, and those we need to take to develop and finalise the railway’s design. Once we have this finalised design the main construction work can begin.
This session will focus on:

  • The process of developing a design outline to gain the approval from Parliament to build the new railway.
  • What preparatory work you will see happening over the next few years.
  • How our preparatory work helps to prepare for main construction and inform the development of the railway’s design.
  • The work our engineers are doing to develop, assure and finalise the design to enable us to start the railway’s construction.
  • The opportunity to ask our team any questions you may have.

To join us for the event you can register online via the platform EventBrite at the link below. You will then receive your sign in details.

Date of post: 25 January 2022: Notice of survey works at Hanchurch Interchange (M6 junction 15/A500).     Last year, we carried out Ground Investigation surveys to help us understand the ground conditions to help inform the design of the junction. While carrying out the work, we encountered some challenging ground conditions.

As a result, we were unable to gather all the data needed. Therefore, we need to return to carry out some further surveys. From 6 February 2022, we will need to work in the highway around Hanchurch Interchange, Newcastle Road and Whitmore Road junction. This will include six Sunday daytime shifts (8am to 4pm) and fifteen night shifts (8pm to 6am).

For more information about this work, please view or download our works notification.

Date of post: 29 October 2021: October Phase 2a Newsletter is now available : Phase 2a Newsletter – October 2021

Date of post: 12 October 2021: Notification of ground investigation work in Marston near Stone.  As part of the continuing activity ahead of the construction of the railway, HS2 are  letting you know about some planned works that we will be carrying out in your area.

Working on behalf of HS2 Ltd, National Grid is legally required to move a number of overhead electricity lines, pylons and gas pipelines along the HS2 route to allow for the build and operation of the new railway.

The new HS2 railway will pass above an existing gas pipeline in Marston. We’ll divert the pipeline around 2023 so it can continue to operate safely and reliably.

To inform the design for the diversion, our contractor, Fastflow, will undertake ground investigation surveys in Marston around mid-October. A team of up to 15 people, with around eight vehicles and equipment including an excavator, mobile water tank and welfare units, will carry out the work.

Visit your local community webpages to find information about HS2 works and developments in your area.

Date of post: 28 September 2021: Notice of ground investigation surveys off Tolldish Lane, Great Haywood.  As part of the continuing activity ahead of the construction of the railway, HS2 are letting you know about some planned works that will be carried out in your area.

In early 2023, we will be starting work to move an existing gas pipeline on land either side of Tolldish Lane, Great Haywood.

Before we move the pipeline, we need to carry out some surveys off Tolldish lane, to understand more about the land we will be working in. The work will involve drilling boreholes and digging small pits so we can take samples of the ground to analyse. We will be carrying out the surveys from 11 October 2021.

If you have a question about HS2 or our works, please contact our HS2 Helpdesk team on 08081 434 434 or email hs2enquiries@hs2.org.uk.
